Happy Fiesta Buguey! It’s that time of year again! After holding off on last year’s Patronal Town Fiesta celebration due to COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Miss Buguey Pageant is back this weekend.
Buguey derived its name from the Ibanag word “Nabugay” which means capsized. Story goes that in the early 1600’s, the sea pirates attacked, plundered the town, and looted the houses in revenge of the Spaniards who attacked them in Mindanao and Sulu.
Buguey, belonging to the first legislative district of the province of Cagayan, is governed by a mayor designated as its local chief executive and by a municipal council as its legislative body in accordance with the Local Government Code.
